Notes

In 2016, less than 10% of St. Louis’s residential trash was recycled. On average, the United States generates 258 Million Tons of waste every year. That’s a lot of trash, and a lot of missed opportunity! If you, or a student you know is passionate about coming up with solutions, then join EarthWays on April 14th at T-REX for the first-ever EarthWays Innovation Challenge: Innovation Challenge.

What is the Innovation Challenge?

The 2018 Innnovation Challenge: Waste Solutions is a chance for St. Louis students to make real-world action, innovation, and solutions around waste and recycling. During this one-day Design Challenge students will work to design, test, and present their own unique, innovative solutions to reduce waste in schools, and build their understanding of waste, recycling problem-solving, and technology skills.

What Can I Expect?

During the Innovation Challenge, students will:

  • Learn more about solid waste in our communities
  • Form small design teams and brainstorm solutions
  • Design working prototypes of their waste-reduction innovations
  • Work with mentors who are regional experts
  • Deliver a pitch to a panel of judges
  • Earn the chance to be crowned the 2018 Top Innovator!

Snacks and lunch will be provided throughout the day.
