Come join Student Union and Student Environmental Council in welcoming Dr. Vandana Shiva to WashU!

Dr. Shiva’s talk, titled Earth Democracy, will explore the ways environmental issues affect our democratic institutions and how environmental action protects human rights.

Dr. Vandana Shiva completed her Ph.D. on the ‘Hidden Variables and Non-locality in Quantum Theory’ at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. In 1991 she founded Navdanya, an Indian NGO dedicated to promoting biodiversity, organic farming, and seed preservation. Today her activism focuses on GMOs, intellectual property rights, bioethics, women’s rights, and agriculture worker conditions in India and around the world. Dr. Shiva has appeared in a number of notable documentaries and published many books about feminism, Indian politics, and environmental issues.
